Her Mission

The cave was dark and gave her an eerie vibe. “Are you sure that it’s safe?” She asked the man. “Yes. It really is. I store some of my wares here too, most people don’t know how to find it.” He was a bit fidgety, but she wasn’t sure why. She hoped is was from relief, but something didn’t feel quite right. “Okay then, if you say so.”

The cave was deeper then she thought. The floor was slippery and damp and she was more than eager to get out of it. “When do we reach the end?” She asked the man, he was right beside her, as she noticed from the tiny reiatsu he transmitted. “Where almost there, it’s behind a crack in a big rock.

Larentia had no idea how much time had passed since they entered the cave. Her feet where starting to get tired from the uneven terrain. They both fell occasionally, even after their eyes had gotten used to the dark it wasn’t enough to notice the holes and rocks. She grunted and wished she never agreed to this stupid walk. “Here it is! I can feel the crack!”

She walked towards the sound of his voice and she could feel some air coming from behind the rock. “Are you sure? Last time it wasn’t.” She rubbed her eyes and looked at him. There was light coming from the crack. “C’mon here you can store it safely!”

The room still looked like a cave, but it was open in at the top. The sun was at its highest point and the open parts where well lit. It was dead silent, without any animal noise. Larentia’s eyes scanned the cave, but couldn’t find any of the stuff the man mentioned. “Are you sure this is the right place?” She asked while she turned to the place where he was, but he was gone.

Her heart started racing, this wasn’t good, people didn’t just disappear. Maybe he went back to the inside... She told herself, hoping to calm herself down. Yes... That must be it.. She went to search for the crack, but it was like it never existed. She turned around. I’m trapped...

“Hello?” She asked, but her only answer was the echo of her voice. The sun was warm on her dark robes. Larentia carefully walked to the side that still had some shadow. “Where are you?!” She asked again, but still no one answered her. She carefully put the barrel down and sat next to it. What’s going on here...

The scorching heat of the sun reflecting on the light sand even reached her in the tiny shadow. She had enough water for a few days, if it didn’t dampen too much. She didn’t need much food as long as she preserved her energy use. The place gave her the creeps and the feeling of being locked here didn’t make it any better. She sighed, curled up and closed her eyes.

This is your fault, stupid girl. Kiniro told her, in her dream. He was a small spirit, but a very aggressive one. He had golden hair and large brown ram horns on his head. He wore traditional clothing, that matched with his dark blue eyes. He didn’t look like much, but Larentia knew different. Well, I can’t really change that now...

The heat made her tired and the last thing she wanted was to get into a fight with Kiniro right now. She just wanted to sleep. You can sleep after you cleaned up this mess, you dipshit. Eventually you gotta realise that people might be lying to your ugly face. He stood up and walked over to her. He was only about 4 feet tall, but he still made her feel small.

He sounded desperate, like he really needed my help. She told him, trying to defend herself. But she realised it wasn’t much of an excuse, thanks to her they would both die here. You can’t help every freaking person in this whole dammed world. You can’t even help yourself, so why the hell bother with others.

After years of hearing his voice, demeaning and demanding. Wanting to make her do things she never wanted to do, this didn’t really hit home. I’m sorry. She told him, it was too warm, she was too tired to tell him anything else. I’ll try to find an exit, tomorrow. Kiniro’s eyes narrowed. Tomorrow? It’s already tomorrow you dumbass. He lashed out at her.

She pulled back, but not on time. His long nails scratched her face and blood dripped on her collar. I’m tired... Let me sleep. She begged, her limbs felt heavy like she had been awake for days. You’ve been sleeping long enough, now it’s time for you to wake up! He grabbed her uniform and pulled her up from the floor.

’Cause if you don’t, we’re both gonna die. He grabbed her chin and a small electrical shock was send through her body. She winched, I will, just stop! The next moment he was gone and she could feel the sand touching her face. She was no longer in the shadow, her lips where dry and her stomach empty. A group of figures slowly approached her from the other side of the cave.

She shot up, still tired but fully awake now. Her gut feeling told her that group of people wouldn’t bring her any positive news. Quickly she wolfed down the last of her dried fruits and gulped down some water. Larentia stood up and unsheathed Kiniro, he was surprisingly quiet.

The group split up, with high speed. Larentia concentrated on their reiatsu, and noticed they had spread through the entire cave. Calm down. You’ll get out of it... You can do it. One of the first came close to her. She pointed her hand in his direction, “Hado #31, Shakkahō!”.

A ball of red fire hit the man in his stomach and he was blown away by force. She made sure that he wouldn’t die as an result. But being handicapped for the rest of his life was an option. Thanks to many years of treating patient, Larentia had a good idea of what a person could take, before they would die. She waited for the next attack.

Next where two men, both of them charged at her at the same time. She shunpo’d out of the way and slashed down at the elbow of one of them. Judging of the feeling of the sword, she was pretty sure she got the muscle. The man screamed and reached for his elbow with is other hand.

The other man took this time to charge another attack, he quickly tried to run behind her. But it wasn’t much of an effect, she easily out sped him with a single shunpo. Larentia aimed low at his knees, so he wouldn’t be able to walk any more. He fell down and she shunpod away, to a more quiet place.

She had a quiet moment for a few seconds. “Rest, Kiniro no Hitsuji..” She whispered. Larentia wasn’t sure why she was whispering, they would find her anyway. There wasn’t any place to hide or leave. Finally ready to do things my way?Never.

“I guess you’re not as weak as we thought.” A man said when he walked towards her, calmly. “But that doesn’t really matter, we’ve got plenty of time.” He smiled, a sleek, snake-like smile that made her uncomfortable. “What do you want.” She replied, clenching Kiniro in her fist, ready to lash out if she had to.

“We want that.” He pointed towards Kiniro, “Solid gold, I assume? But that bag would be fine too.” This time he pointed to her backpack. “You could just give it to us and we’ll leave you alone.” He smiled. “I’ll promise that this time we won’t lie to you.”

She grunted, it was kind of obvious now that she looked back. Helpless desperate people didn’t try to make you enter dark caves. “Sure.” She said, slightly sarcastic. She still needed the money and was pretty sure they would still kill her even if she gave it up. “You can have it.” She said, “But only if you can pry it from my dead body.”

He laughed in response and it made her think about Kiniro. Don’t compare my to that jackass. Kiniro told her, I’m way more awesome. She noticed a peach in the mans reiatsu. He unsheathed his own sword. A zanpakuto She thought and dodged the first attack.

The man was stronger then she expected. But she realised that he hadn’t learned the name of his zanpakuto yet. He knew how to shunpo, but it wasn’t quite up to par. The fight was easier then she anticipated. The man had a vast amount of reiatsu, but he had no idea how to use it properly.
