:Background Information/history:: Shigeru was known as Ian before moving to Japan with his family, a year before high school. His father had recently been hired for a higher paying job there, so the family relocated. Shigeru was very interested in history and excelled at it, also taking up fencing as a side hobby. Five years later, Shigeru planned on going to college and majoring in English history when one day he accidentally walked into the midst of a gang war. He was gunned down along with several other civilians, who were pronounced dead on arrival to the hospital. When he arrived in the soul society he showed an aptitude for sword fighting, but his style was different that what most had seen, being based on more of a medieval Europe style.
