For the first time in Hikari's life, everything was perfect. The sun was shining, the magnolias were in full bloom, and she was sitting outside at a street cafe, eating sushi and holding hands with the most perfect boy
EVER.
Jay Jay had eyes the color of the sky, and hair as brown as an eagle's wing. But most of all, Jay knew about Hikari's wings, and he didn't care. Didn't care how she was different. Didn't care that she could toss him over her shoulder and twirl him in the air. All he cared about was Hikari's happiness, and their relationship together.
"Hikari, is something wrong? You're being rather quiet." asked Jay
"No, everything's fine Jay. I was just thinking about how beautiful it is today." Hikari blushed.
"Yeah, it is nice out today, especially with the magnolias in full bloom." he said. "But I still think you make their beauty pale in comparison." Jay smiled.
BOOM! Suddenly the table next to them caught fire and exploded!
"What was that?!" they both yelled. jumping back in surprise.Hikari turned her head and looked out of the corner of her eyes (Long ago, in the lab she was raised in, she noticed that she could see things that weren't there before out of the corners of her eyes. She could actually see spirits because of her enormous dormant spiritual energy). She did see something, but it wasn't a pleasant sight. Three strange men, wearing white robes, each carrying a weapon of some kind, Hikari didn't know why, but these strangers scared her. She quickly hid beneath her table. Even her inner eagle predator instincts told her to run, but she couldn't leave Jay.
"Come on Jay, we have to get out of here!" cried Hikari "Jay?" she turned around. He had been right next to her. "Jay where are you?!""Hikari! Over here!" Jay whispered. He had ducked around the corner of the street cafe, and was motioning for Hikari to join him.
Hikari quickly ran to where Jay was hiding, but a crescent moon-shaped blade suddenly blocked her path.
"Oh no you don't girl." said one of the white-robed strangers
"Aizen ordered us to bring you back to Hueco Mundo. I suggest that you give up. It isn't wise to resist." Hikari deliriously thought the back of his robe made him look like a spoon
. She didn't know what these people wanted, but she knew that she had to get out of there fast. She kicked spoon-guy (yeah that's what she decided to call Nnorita), jumped and opened her wings, taking flight and flying away from them. She called to Jay,
"Run home, I'll meet you there!" Hikari took off into the sky. She looked behind just in case. Oh no, they were following her. Even though they had no wings, they could somehow fly.
"Running away is useless Hikari!" said spoon-guy. Hikari dove down into the trees of the nearby park, hiding in the branches of a tall oak.
]i]They'll never find me here.[/i] she thought.
Ten minutes passed. To Hikari, it felt like a day. Seeing the white-robed strangers nowhere, she slipped down from her hiding place.
I hope Jay got home alright. Worry filled her. If those strange people hurt Jay, it would be all her fault, and he had never done anything to endanger her. Hikari jumped back into the air, and flew to Jay's house.
======================
Hikari landed softly on the back porch. She turned the doorknob. The house was unlocked. Quietly she opened the door and crept inside.
"Jay, are you there?" she began to climb the stairs, her fear mounting with every step. She reached the top of the stairs and paused. The house was eerily quietly. Hikari turned into Jay's bedroom and gasped in shock. There was Jay's body lying motionless on the floor. Hikari froze in shock, then noticed something silvery out of the corner of her eye. It was a chain, attached to Jay directly over his heart. She followed the chain and saw...another Jay? He looked just like the Jay lying motionless on the floor, but his colors were faded, as if her were a shadow.
"Jay? Is that you?" Hikari asked.
"Hikari! Run!" cried Jay
"That's enough out of you." Oh no! Hikari thought.
It's spoon guy! "Why are you following me? What do you want?" Hikari yelled.
"Your SOUL!" said spoon guy, grinning evilly. Then he struck down with his sword. The chain connecting Jay to his body snapped. Jay immediately started writhing in pain.
"JAY!" cried Hikari. Something in Hikari snapped, seeing Jay writhe in pain like that. She ran at spoon guy, determined to cause him pain. He swung his blade at her. Hikari tried to dodge, but wasn't fast enough. His blade ripped straight through her heart. Hikari felt the pain for a moment, then blacked out. Seconds later, her eyes snapped open. She was lying under a tree by a road. A sign by the road said "Welcome to 60 North Rukongai".
Where am I? thought Hikari. Then she remembered,
"JAY!"
